GNC SAME-STORE SALES IN U.S. COMPANY-OWNED LOCATIONS RISE 8% IN 1997 and same-store sales in domestic franchise locations were up 16.9%, General Nutrition Companies announced March 3. Overall company sales climbed 20.5% to $1.79 bil. in fiscal 1997 (ended Feb. 1). Net income increased 29.6% to $105.9 mil., excluding a restructuring charge in fiscal 1996 and non-cash compensation expenses in both years. The company added more than 300 new stores through openings and its franchise-repurchase program during the year.
