FOLIC ACID SUPPLEMENTS TAKEN DAILY BY ONE-THIRD OF WOMEN aged 18-45, researchers report in the Feb. 27 issue of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Based on the Gallup Organization's 1997 telephone survey of 2,001 women designed to measure knowledge and use of folic acid supplements, March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation Medical Director Richard Johnston, MD, et al. present new data on daily supplement use. General findings of the survey were announced last August in the MMWR ("The Tan Sheet" Aug. 11, 1997, p. 16).
