Executive Summary
Folate/vitamin B6: "Lower levels of folate and vitamin B6 confer an increased risk of arteriosclerosis," Killian Robinson, MD, Cleveland Clinic, et al., conclude in a study published in the February issue of the American Heart Association's journal Circulation. The researchers found folate levels below the 10th percentile and vitamin B6 levels below the 20th percentile were associated with increased risk, while homocysteine concentrations greater than the 80th percentile for control subjects were associated with an elevated risk of heart disease. The multi-center trial involved 750 patients with vascular disease and 800 controls. Results reinforce findings from the Nurses' Health Study published in the Feb. 4 Journal of the American Medical Association ("The Tan Sheet" Feb. 9, p. 22)...
