National Toxicology Program tests possible for saw palmetto, goldenseal, comfrey.

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

SAW PALMETTO NOMINATED FOR POSSIBLE GOVERNMENT TOXICOLOGY STUDIES by the National Toxicology Program Interagency Committee for Chemical Evaluation and Coordination (ICCEC). The popular herbal ingredient and two other dietary supplement ingredients - - goldenseal and comfrey -- are "under consideration" for NTP testing because of their "extensive" use as dietary supplements and concerns they may contain toxic constituents, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, NTP's parent, announced in a Jan. 8 Federal Register notice. Comments on the potential studies or information on the ingredients will be accepted for 60 days from the date of the notice.
