McNeil: Licensing agreement with Helsinki-based Raisio Group for marketing of cholesterol-reducing food ingredient stanol ester expanded worldwide, McNeil says Nov. 26; the original licensing agreement, announced in July, was for exclusive North American marketing rights ("The Tan Sheet" July 21, p. 25). Raisio holds patents for use of the substance for cholesterol lowering and markets stanol ester in Benecol margarine, sold in Finland. Worldwide marketing of stanol ester-containing products is expected to begin with a launch in Sweden in early 1998. Raisio plans to build a stanol ester plant in Charleston, S.C. to "handle North American market needs"...
