FTC CONTACTS OVER 400 INTERNET ADVERTISERS ON HEALTH CLAIMS identified during a recent Internet advertising sweep announced by the Federal Trade Commission Nov. 5. In e-mail messages sent in late October/early November to Web sites and newsgroups making disease claims, the commission pointed out that advertisers must have evidence to support the statements. The majority of the products involved appeared to be dietary supplements, according to the commission.
