OAM RESEARCH CENTER FUNDING MAY BE AMONG PRIORITIES FOR FY 1998, the National Institutes of Health Alternative Medicine Program Advisory Council said at a Sept. 22-23 meeting in Bethesda, Md. The council advises the NIH Office of Alternative Medicine on the evaluation of alternative medical treatment modalities. AMPAC discussed a proposed schedule of priorities for OAM for fiscal 1998 (begins Oct. 1) that includes planned resources of $5 mil. for "centers and center re-competition," OAM's "main investment" in research sponsorship, the schedule states. OAM funds 10 research centers, two of which will be reconsidered in fiscal 1998, and is planning to add AIDS, addictions, cardiovascular disease, chiropractic and pediatric centers.
