This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

DIETARY SUPPLEMENT "PRELIMINARY HEALTH CLAIM" SUGGESTED BY NDMA to enable the use of labeling claims when "significant scientific agreement" has not been reached. In Aug. 4 comments on the President's Commission on Dietary Supplement Labels draft report, the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association Vitamin/Mineral Task Group maintains the commission's guidance regarding health claims are "not strong enough," adding the final report "should make recommendations for preliminary health claims." The presidential commission issued the draft on dietary supplement safety, labeling and claims on June 24 ("The Tan Sheet" June 30, pp. 17-25).
