FDA SALARIES AND EXPENSES WOULD BE FUNDED AT $844 MIL. IN FY 1998, an increase of about $24 mil. over the previous year, under language reported out of the Senate Appropriations/Agriculture Subcommittee July 15 and passed 28-0 by the full committee at its July 17 mark-up. Floor debate on the subject could come as early as July 22. No FDA amendments were debated by the full committee. The Senate allocated roughly $93 mil. more in salaries and expenses than the amount requested by the Clinton Administration in its FY 1998 budget for the year beginning Oct. 1.
