Executive Summary
CONSUMER SUMMARIES OF NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT STATEMENT, SAFETY substantiation suggested as a requirement of companies submitting notification letters to FDA by the President's Commission on Dietary Supplements Labels in a draft report released June 24. "The commission recommends that a consumer version of the evidence substantiating the statement be made available to the public for each product that bears a statement of nutritional support," the report states. "The consumer version should not state or imply use for prevention or treatment of disease," the draft adds. The commission is accepting comments on the draft through Aug. 4.
