Executive Summary
SCHERER VITAMIN E, HEALTH & NUTRITIONAL SOFTGEL "STRONG GAINS" helped boost overall sales for fiscal 1997 (ended March 31), the soft gelatin capsule manufacturer reported May 12. Consolidated sales for the fiscal year were $588.7 mil., up 2.9% from the $571.7 mil. reported in FY 1996. R.P. Scherer said the current year sales rise "resulted primarily from a 40% increase in Zydis revenues and strong gains in vitamin E and H&N softgel sales" in the U.S., U.K. and Australia. Vitamin E sales accounted for quite a bit of that gain, Scherer said. The gains were partially offset by several factors, including "weak demand for all types of softgel products in continental Europe," as well as lower Rx nifedipine and flat Sandimmune/Neoral sales, Scherer noted.
