Nutritionals adverse reactions database: FDA Office of Special Nutritionals is in the process of installing new computer software in the adverse reactions database that compiles consumer reports of illness or injury associated with dietary supplements, infant formula and medical foods. The agency says the change has caused a delay in updating the database. The information available is current only as of Sept. 30. Reports come in through a hotline at the Center for Food Safety & Applied Nutrition, MedWatch, FDA's drug quality reporting system, FDA field offices, other federal and state health agencies and the USP. As of July, the majority of reports cited products said to contain ephedra, ma huang or ephedrine ("The Tan Sheet" July 29, 1996, p. 3)...
