Executive Summary
SUNSCREEN PACKAGING SHOULD ADDRESS DIFFERENCE AMONG UVA, UVB, SPF protection now that "broad spectrum" claims can be made on sunscreens, FDA Division of Drug Marketing, Advertising & Communication social science analyst Karen Lechter, PhD, said at an OTC "feedback" meeting with the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association and the Cosmetic, Toiletry & Fragrance Association Feb. 11 in Rockville, Md. "I believe there is a great deal of confusion in this area, [and] it would be helpful if either the packaging or a public relations effort would address the differences between UVA, UVB, and SPF and what is important about each," Lechter said. "Consumers are not getting that information from the existing stimuli that they are given."
