Ephedrine registration: In a Feb. 10 interim rule, Drug Enforcement Administration grants temporary exemptions from the Controlled Substances Act's registration requirements to retail distributors of combination ephedrine products containing less than 24 g per transaction pending a final rule. Comments are requested by April 11. The interim rule amends DEA regulations to incorporate changes to the Controlled Substances Act resulting from the passage of the Comprehensive Methamphetamine Control Act of 1996 ("The Tan Sheet" Oct. 7, 1996, p. 4).
