ESSENTIAL OILS GINGIVAL BLEEDING DATA FOR PLAQUE/GINGIVITIS NEEDED, Stanley Saxe, DMD, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, recommended at a Dec. 16-17 FDA Dental Products Panel Plaque Subcommittee meeting in Bethesda, Md. Saxe was asked to provide a list of data recommendations for the ingredients thymol, menthol, eucalyptol and methyl salicylate, following a presentation by Listerine manufacturer Warner-Lambert on the efficacy of essential oils. In a review of W-L data, Saxe recommended that the company conduct additional studies that use "bleeding as a measurement of effectiveness."
