HERBAL REMEDY CATEGORY PROPOSED BY SUPPLEMENT LABEL COMMISSION SUBCOMMITTEE members as one way of dealing with the health claims issue. The concept of creating the new category and a system for authorizing herbal remedy claims was presented by a subcommittee of the President's Commission on Dietary Supplement Labels to the full commission at a Sept. 19-20 meeting in Reston, Va. As proposed, the system for approving such claims would be offered to botanical product manufacturers as an option.
