Online self-regulation: The Council of Better Business Bureaus and the Federal Trade Commission introduce BBBOnLine, a program that will offer on-line shoppers point-of-purchase information about participating vendors. Companies that commit to meeting BBB standards, agree to ongoing BBB monitoring, and whose ownership and performance record have been verified by BBB will be eligible to display a BBBOnLine seal that links to a home page explaining BBB standards and allowing consumers to obtain company reliability reports.
