Ephedrine adverse reactions in Massachusetts: Of the 35 calls received by the ephedrine hotline since its inception on Aug. 2, nine involved incidents that required medical attention, the Mass. health department's Drug Control Program tells the Public Health Council at a recent meeting. The remainder of the calls were inquiries about ephedrine. The state health department set up the hotline in response to the April 22 death of George Korizis, a Boston resident, which was attributed to ephedra use ("The Tan Sheet" Aug. 12, p. 4).
