Executive Summary

NNFA by-laws: The association takes issue with several points raised in a story in the July 29 issue of "The Tan Sheet" (p. 7). NNFA explained that the proposed by-laws in question "would not have added a new membership requirement because it was not a new 'membership level.'" Instead, the proposed change to the by-laws would have added a new dues-paying, non-voting level "appropriately defined as 'non-voting associates,'" NNFA pointed out, adding that this proposal was "entirely separate" from a proposal to revise the association's code of ethics. In addition, the group notes that NNFA Director of Conventions and Meetings Sheldon Metz commented on the proposal as moderator of a discussion on the role of mass markets in the natural products industry. He is not in the position to "set policy [or] officially address the proposed by-law amendments," NNFA noted. The association also said that a quote in the story -- that "approximately 85% of NNFA members represent businesses that gross less than $700,000 a year" -- should have been attributed to a candidate for the NNFA presidency...
