Extra Strength Tylenol ads: Referred to Federal Trade Commission by the National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, NAD announced April 26. Challenged by Advil manufacturer American Home Products ("The Tan Sheet" April 15, In Brief), J&J's ads claim: "If you use ibuprofen and have an ulcer, Tylenol may be a better choice for you." J&J, according to NAD, "has chosen not to participate in the self-regulatory process," which would require the firm to provide evidence to substantiate the claim. NAD disagrees with McNeil's assertion that the issue was resolved in a 1987 court case. "The claims differ," says NAD, "particularly as to the expression of these products' relative differences and the levels of risk"...
