Executive Summary
Access to Medical Treatment Act: Is expected to be introduced the week of June 26 by Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.). The bill, which was introduced last year by DeFazio as HR 4696 and by Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) as S 2140, broadens access to unapproved medical treatments provided they are not harmful. The 1995 version has been amended to address concerns raised by the dietary supplement industry that language in the bill could allow a supplement to be deemed "dangerous" if given in conjunction with a harmful therapy ("The Tan Sheet" March 20, p. 14).
