Conducted by the Gallup Organization, the national telephone survey of 2,010 women between the ages of 18 and 45 found that "when asked why folic acid is recommended for women of childbearing age, the vast majority (90%) did not know." The study was funded by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
