Executive Summary

FDA BUDGET WOULD REMAIN LEVEL IN FISCAL 1996 UNDER HOUSE BILL reported out of the Appropriations/Agriculture Subcommittee on June 14. The measure provides $917.7 mil. for salaries and expenses. Of that amount, $819 mil. are direct appropriations. About $84.7 mil. of the total allocation will come from authorized prescription drug user fees and about $13 mil. from fees authorized for inspection of mammography facilities, for a total of $97.7 mil. from user fees. Prescription drug user fees are budgeted at $79 mil. in the current fiscal year.
