In Brief: Child-resistant packaging

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

Child-resistant packaging: Consumer Product Safety Commission will hold staff briefing June 8 on issues related to possible changes to the "senior friendly" test protocol for child-resistant packaging. Questions about whether the contemplated changes are designed for greater safety or merely for greater convenience have been raised by the Coalition for Responsible Packaging, of which the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers Association is a member. The commission has scheduled a vote for June 15 on whether to issue the changes as a final rule. Separately, a CPSC staff briefing package on a proposed rule to require child-resistant packaging for naproxen sodium is due to be forwarded to the commission in July..
