NLEA Regs: FDA publishes Federal Register notice on Feb. 9 that makes official the agency's comments to CRN that it does not intend to enforce its regulations on nutrition labeling and nutrient content claims for supplements until after Dec. 31, 1996 ("The Tan Sheet" Feb. 6, p. 13). FDA explained that it is issuing the notice in response to industry requests for clarification on the effective date of the labeling regs in light of the passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act in October, which has an effective date for nutrition labeling of Dec. 31, 1996, and the NLEA regs published in January 1993, which would have required relabeling by July 1995...
