Executive Summary

J&J unit will market Pharmacia's nicotine nasal spray in North America under an agreement with the Swedish pharmaceutical company. McNeil already markets the Nicotrol nicotine patch, which is manufactured by Cygnus under license from Pharmacia. In August, FDA's Drug Abuse Advisory Committee recommended that the nasal spray for smoking cessation be treated as a Drug Enforcement Agency Schedule V controlled substance, the least restrictive of DEA classifications ("The Tan Sheet" Aug. 8, p. 10)
