SMITHKLINE-STERLING COMBO CREATES PRODUCT OVERLAPS in the U.S. acne treatment and cough/cold categories. The most direct overlap is between SmithKline Beecham's Oxy acne line and Sterling's Stri- Dex skin care brand. Several of SB's Contac cough/cold line appear to overlap wish the efforts by Sterling to extend the Bayer name to specific subcategories of the pain market. Sterling also has Neo-Synephrine products in the cough/cold area; but SB does not have any nasal delivery OTCs. In the laxative class, SB has a fiber product Citrucel and Sterling has the Phillips line.
