FDA indicates that it will "publish a proposal in the near future" that will address the issue of accidental pediatric ingestion of iron-containing drugs or supplements. The agency announced its intention in a letter responding to a petition on accidental iron ingestions submitted by the American Association of Poison Control Centers in 1991. Industry groups such as NDMA, CRN and NNFA have all proposed voluntary iron poison prevention programs ("The Tan Sheet" Oct. 4, 1993, p. 14)
