Executive Summary
Settles Federal Trade Commission charges that the company made false and unsubstantiated claims for the since discontinued Fibre Trim weight-loss aid. Schering had claimed that Fibre Trim is "a high-fiber product" and "an effective weight-loss product." The proposed settlement prohibits Schering from making claims about weight-loss benefits, nutrient content, or nutrient-related health benefits without "competent and reliable scientific evidence." FTC first issued a complaint September 1989, charging Schering with false and deceptive advertising. Three of FTC's allegations were upheld by an administrative law judge; the judge's decision was later appealed
