Executive Summary
Michael Taylor appointed to administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service responsible for meat and poultry inspection, effective Aug. 15. FDA Associate Commissioner for Policy Coordination William Hubbard is expected to become acting deputy commissioner while a replacement for Taylor is found. The position is a political appointment. Taylor is the second of the four FDA deputy commissioners to leave in the last few months. Deputy Commissioner for Operations Jane Henney, MD, left in May. Taylor's departure has been expected since the spring ("The Tan Sheet" April 25, p. 6)
