Executive Summary
CLOTRIMAZOLE/MICONAZOLE SWITCH TO NONPRESCRIPTION STATUS IN CANADA will become official on Sept. 1. Canadian Bureau of Nonprescription Drugs Director Mary Carman, PharmD, speaking at a June 8 session of the Drug Information Association's annual meeting noted, however, that Canada's decision to switch miconazole and clotrimazole to nonprescription status "does not parallel the decision in the U.S." because the two antifungals "will be permitted OTC in seven-day, three-day and one-day therapies." Only seven-day therapy is allowed with miconazole and clotrimazole in the U.S. for vaginal yeast infections.
