THIRD CLASS OF DRUGS FOR CERTAIN Rx-TO-OTC SWITCH PRODUCTS may address some concerns with bringing these products over-the- counter, Public Citizen's Health Research Group Director Sidney Wolfe, MD, suggested at a May 24 forum on Rx-to-OTC switch drugs sponsored by Tufts University's Center for the Study of Drug Development. Wolfe maintained that "for some of the dilemmas that have been posed or will be posed in switching prescription [drugs] over-the-counter, the remedy may well be -- and we've not yet done it once in this country -- the use of a third class of drugs."
