Executive Summary
FIBER LINK TO COLON CANCER SHOULD BE RE-EVALUATED IN 3-4 YEARS, Walter Willett, MD/PhD, Harvard School of Public Health, suggested at a May 12-13 FDA-sponsored conference on dietary fiber and coronary heart disease and cancer. Willett said the scientific community currently is "very far from definitive information" on a possible inverse association between dietary fiber intake and colon cancer. "It's going to be necessary to re-evaluate this issue in three to four years time" as new epidemiological and clinical data become available and "data analysis is more penetrating," Willett asserted.
