Executive Summary
SEN. HATCH's DIETARY SUPPLEMENT BILL WILL CONTINUE TO BE REFINED before the legislation reaches the Senate floor. Sen. Orrin Hatch's (R-Utah) substitute legislation was cleared by the Senate Labor & Human Resources Committee at a May 11 markup by a vote of 12-5. The bill was offered as an amendment to the dietary supplement bill (S 784) that Hatch introduced in April 1993 ("The Tan Sheet" April 12, 1993, pp. 6-8). Committee Chair Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) also introduced a substitute bill at the markup, but the measure was voted down 12-5 by the committee.
