OTC ZOVIRAX PATIENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM is being considered by Burroughs Wellcome in preparation for the Rx-to-OTC switch of oral acyclovir for the management of recurrent genital herpes, the company told FDA in a recent letter. "Although over-the-counter status will make Zovirax more widely available," Burroughs Wellcome said it recognizes that an Rx-to-OTC switch "may change the ways in which people with limited financial means currently obtain the medication."
