DEFENSE DEPARTMENT TRI-SERVICE FORMULARY INCLUDES OTC DRUGS for the treatment of allergies, colds, diarrhea and topical wounds. In a memorandum to the secretaries of the Army, Navy and Air Force, Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense Edward Martin, MD, said the formulary was designed to serve as the basis for a pharmacy benefit across the Military Health Services System. Martin explained that the formulary will be "clinically nonrestrictive" and will "form the foundation for medical treatment facility (MTF) formularies, but may be supplemented by individual facilities when additional therapeutic agents are medically necessary."
