BISMUTH-TETRACYCLINE-METRONIDAZOLE THERAPY HAD HIGHEST ERADICATION RATE (94.1%) in a meta-analysis performed by Chiba et al. in 1992 that were presented to the Feb. 7-9 NIH consensus conference by Richard Hunt, McMaster University, Ontario. The pooled results of 27 studies showed H. pylori eradication rates of 18.6% for single therapy, 48.2% for double and 82.3% for triple therapy. Substituting amoxicillin for tetracycline in the most effective triple combo reduced the eradication rate by about 20 points to 73.1%.
