Extends OTC alliance with Elf Sanofi to cover Central and Eastern Europe. Elf Sanofi will contribute product lines for "emerging markets" in the former communist-block countries, manufacturing facilities and regional marketing knowledge, Sterling noted. Products will be marketed under the Sterling Health name and include the analgesic brand Panadol and products from a prior joint venture with Hungarian pharmaceutical firm, Chinoin. Sterling currently has consumer health operations in the Czech and Slovak Republics, Hungary and Poland and recently established a Russian subsidiary, Sterling Health Ltd., A/O ("The Tan Sheet" Dec. 6, 1993, p. 3).
