OTC advisory committee

Executive Summary

NDMA asks FDA in an Oct. 29 letter to extend or renew the terms of two members of the Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee whose terms expire in May 1994 -- Elizabeth Connell, MD, Emory School of Medicine, and Thomas Petty, MD, Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center. NDMA pointed to Connell's expertise in obstetrics and gynecology and Petty's in pulmonary medicine and suggested it would be in "the best interests of the committee" to retain the two members for "at least another year and preferably for a full new term." Connell and Joseph Veltri, Intermountain Regional Poison Control Center, whose term also expires in May, were among NDMA's 16 nominations for the panel in December 1991.
