Executive Summary

Results of three toxicology tests on the safety of the sunscreen ingredient are negative, CTFA Toxicology Director Stephen Gettings tells CTFA's scientific conference Oct. 31-Nov. 2. The tests showed no genotoxicity, no adverse effects over 90 days at all dose levels tested " and less than 1% penetration of the sunscreen over 48 hours. The studies, sponsored by an "interested party" group of manufacturers and conducted over the past year, were requested by the European Community Scientific Committee on Cosmetology.
