Executive Summary
In an Oct. 22 letter to cosponsors of his dietary supplement legislation (HR 509), Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Calif.) notes that in "the spirit of accommodation and compromise and in an effort to prevent a stalemate" on supplement legislation, Rep. Bill Richardson (D-N.M.), sponsor of supplement bill HR 1709, agreed to include the "most important aspects" of HR 509 into his bill. Gallegly urged his bill's supporters to cosponsor the "Hatch- Richardson-Gallegly bill." Sen. Hatch introduced a counterpart to HR 1709 in the Senate (S 784).
