Executive Summary
Prescription gastric motility drug (cisapride) is approved July 29 for treating nocturnal heartburn symptoms in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. The recommended initial dose of Propulsid is 10 mg q.i.d., but most patients will need a 20 mg q.i.d. dose for a satisfactory result, labeling says. Janssen said that use experience shows that average consumption of Propulsid is 3.4 tabs a day. Based on an average wholesale price of 50" per 10 mg tablet, a Propulsid regimen of 10 mg q.i.d. will cost $ 2 a day and 20 mg q.i.d. will cost $ 4 daily.
