Executive Summary
Two case reports of salicylate toxicity in elderly women who regularly consumed large doses of Goody's BC Headache Powder are discussed in a clinical brief published in the June issue of the Southern Medical Journal. Noting that BC Headache Powder is "widely marketed and used" in the southern U.S., the author, David Gittelman, Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, N.C., recommended that physicians question elderly patients on their use of OTC medications, particularly salicylates, because "over-the-counter medication use and abuse with its associated morbidity and mortality should not be underestimated"...
