Executive Summary
Reports that its Kwai garlic tablet "promotion program" with national pharmacies, supermarkets and mass merchandisers "helped generate a record $ 5.5 mil. in sales at retail prices for the first quarter of fiscal year 1993." The promotion program offered Kwai retail customers, including Kmart, Target, Winn Dixie and Publix, an 8.33% discount off the list price of the odor-free garlic supplement through May. Pittsburgh-based Lichtwer Pharma also made power wings and floor stands available to retailers as "an added incentive." The firm, which is pursuing cholesterol- lowering claims for Kwai ("The Tan Sheet" May 3, p. 6), said Kwai is the number-one garlic supplement brand in the mass market.
