Alpha hydroxy acids

This article was originally published in The Tan Sheet

Executive Summary

FDA effort to examine approximately 18 alpha hydroxy acid- containing products to determine type of AHA used, concentration of use, effects on the skin, labeling claims and directions for use is nearing completion. A particular concern of FDA is the lack of long-term data on AHAs applied over a number of years on a daily basis. AHAs are found in cosmetic, OTC and Rx drug skin care products.
