The Medicare-endorsed card will offer low-income beneficiaries free drugs provided by AstraZeneca, J&J, Lilly, Merck and Novartis, but not Abbott, Pfizer or Wyeth.
The Access to Benefit Coalition calls on card sponsors and manufacturers to ensure all available "wrap around" coverage is available to low-income seniors. Eight companies are offering their drugs at free or reduced prices to seniors who exhaust the $600 transitional subsidy. HHS is providing an additional $4.6 mil. towards enrolling low-income beneficiaries in the discount card.
