McKesson launches independent pharmacy transfer program

Pharmaceutical wholesaler McKesson on July 7 launched its RxOwnership program, a service that provides independent pharmacy owners with business resources and confidential consulting services to transfer ownership to buyers looking to continue operating the pharmacy as an independent. McKesson said the service is not designed for independent owners to sell to chain operators. The wholesaler appointed independent owner Bob Graul to the newly created role of ownership consultant. He will be responsible for the overall strategy, coordination and implementation of the program. Some independent pharmacies have said their challenges have been worsened by expenses related to Medicare Part D. H.R. 6331, now awaiting presidential review, addresses one aspect of Part D, by requiring prompt payment to pharmacies of Part D claims
