Independence Blue Cross drops Caremark
Executive Summary
Independence Blue Cross and its affiliates switch most pharmacy benefit management responsibilities for their commercial plans from Caremark to a new internal unit, FutureScripts, as of Oct. 1, IBC announces. The firm expects the move will affect approximately 1.2 mil. commercial beneficiaries. Caremark will continue to provide mail order services, IBC says. PBM responsibilities for IBC's Part D plans will be reassigned Jan. 1, 2007. For non-Part D members in its plans, IBC will also waive generic drug copays for the first quarter of 2007 as part of a promotional effort to highlight "sweeping changes" to its prescription drug program...
