Merck U.S. Human Health management

Merck/Schering Pharmaceuticals General Manager Adam Schechter will succeed Brad Sheares as president of Merck's U.S. Human Health division, effective immediately. In his position heading the Merck/Schering-Plough joint venture, Schechter oversaw initiatives such as the launch of the ezetimibe/simvastatin fixed-dose combination Vytorin in 2004. Sheares, a nearly 20-year veteran of Merck, was appointed president of USHH in 2001 and was seen as one potential successor to CEO Richard Clarke (1"The Pink Sheet" May 9, 2005, p. 14).
