Terfenadine will return to prescription-only status in the U.K. Sept. 16.
U.K. RETURNING TERFENADINE TO Rx-ONLY STATUS EFFECTIVE SEPT. 16 to prevent misuse of the antihistamine, the U.K. Department of Health said Aug. 26. The agency is revoking pharmacist-supervised availability of terfenadine "following continuing reports of serious heart rhythm disorders when terfenadine is incorrectly used, despite warnings and precautions" on labeling and product leaflets.
